What happens after I submit my online consultation form?

Once you have submitted your form, Dr Edward Ball will review the information and photographs provided to determine the most appropriate next steps for you.

If hair transplant surgery may be suitable:

• You will receive an email to arrange a face-to-face consultation with Dr Ball at our Portsmouth clinic.
• During this appointment, Dr Ball will thoroughly assess your hair loss, discuss your concerns and long-term goals, and develop a personalised treatment plan. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the procedure, what can realistically be achieved and the results you can expect.
• The consultation fee is £225, or £350 for patients seeking corrective or repair surgery (appointments last approximatively 60 minutes).

If non-surgical treatments are recommended:

• Not everyone who enquires about hair transplant surgery will be a suitable candidate. In some cases, medical treatment may be more appropriate, particularly where hair loss is in its earlier stages or requires stabilisation before surgery can be considered.
• If Dr Ball feels that surgery is not appropriate at this stage, we will explain this by email and, where appropriate, recommend a consultation with our Clinical Trichologist for a more detailed assessment of your hair loss and treatment options.

If a trichology consultation would be more appropriate: 

• For younger patients, those experiencing diffuse thinning or those with more recent or ongoing hair loss, we may recommend an appointment with our Clinical Trichologist at our Portsmouth clinic.
• A trichology consultation provides a comprehensive assessment of your hair and scalp health, helping to identify potential contributing factors and establish an appropriate treatment plan focused on managing your hair loss and preserving your existing hair.
• Initial appointments last approximately 60 minutes and cost £225. Follow-up consultations are charged at £115.

Long-term planning at The Maitland Clinic

At The Maitland Clinic, we take long-term planning of surgical hair restoration very seriously. As hair loss is progressive in most cases, the need to prevent further hair loss is essential. Therefore, it is unlikely that we would recommend surgery as an option for male patients under the age of 27 unless their hair loss has been stabilised using non-surgical treatments.
